DESCRIPTION:Currently on view at the Center Museum:\n\n \nA Practical Guide to Modest Magic\nJune 1 – August 17\, 2024 \nA Practical Guide to Modest Magic takes the art assignment as its point of departure\, with written instructions that ask college and university student participants to respond to find magic in the everyday. The assignments encouraged students to explore various themes\, including cross-border collaborations\, curating their own exhibitions in unconventional spaces\, and more\, to build empathy by recognizing and appreciating the magic inherent in each artist’s practice. The prompts sparked creativity from students at colleges and universities across San Diego County\, Orange County\, Los Angeles\, and Tijuana. Over 70 artists were selected from over 100 submissions. \nCombined\, the selections showcase a diverse array of approaches and philosophies to artmaking\, including large-scale installations\, interactive murals\, video\, photography\, painting\, sculpture\, sound\, poetry\, choreography\, and dance. \nImage: Audrey Gingras\, Originations\, 2024. DESCRIPTION:Week 4: Foreshortening and Two-point Perspective \nJoin instructor Cecilia Fraher in learning tricks that can be used to form an object without use of line and a discussion of overall composition: symmetrical\, asymmetrical\, and horizons. \nThis foundational drawing class aims to empower the student with the confidence to sketch and present creative ideas without fear of embarrassment or inadequacy. \n  \nAbout the series: \nIntroduction to Drawing with Cecilia Fraher \nThursday mornings 11am-12:30pm \nJuly 18 – Aug 15\, 2024 \n\nWeek 1: Human Proportions (Head and Full Body)\nWeek 2: Positive & Negative Space\nWeek 3: Form\, Shape & Value\nWeek 4: Foreshortening and Two-point Perspective\nWeek 5: Light & Shadow\n\n  \nWhile each class can be taken as a standalone course\, it is recommended that participants take all five classes offered in the course to build on previous lessons. Recommended for ages 12 and above. \n  \nAbout the Instructor: \nCecilia Fraher is a designer and illustrator based in San Diego\, California. Originally from New Jersey\, she has worked in fashion design\, specializing in print design and textile manufacturing through roles with Nordstrom\, Thieves Market\, Twin Sales\, David Silvers of California\, and Little Laura of California. She earned her AA degree in Fashion Design from Brooks College in Long Beach\, California\, and an AA in General Business from Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga\, California. Currently\, Cecilia is studying Studio Arts at San Diego State University.
