DESCRIPTION:Meet at 7:00a.m. at La Honda Drive at the Daley Ranch Parking Lot. This hike is considered “EASY/MODERATE” and approximately 3.5 miles total \nThe Ranch with over 3100 acres of open space offers San Diego residents near-in hiking opportunities with 25+ miles of maintained trails ranging from easy to strenuous. \nThe trails cover everything from flat grass lands to wooded bolder strewn steep inclines. The Ranch House trail provides an approximately one mile paved rolling hills walk between the La Honda parking lot and the restored ranch house. \nTo find something of interest select on Daley Ranch Trail Guide which can be downloaded and printed or a copy can be picked up at the La Honda or Cougar Pass trailheads.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on the second and third Sunday of each month\, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.\, for a free interpretive nature walk. You have the opportunity to hear about the amazing plants and wildlife at Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. Walks are moderately paced on the lower creek trail and begin in front of the Elfin Forest Interpretive Center Honoring Susan J. Varty. \nAl Bates leads walks on the second Sunday of the month\, and Sabina Kurz-Sherman leads walks on the third Sunday of the month. \n  \n \nAL BATES \nRetired from law enforcement\, Al is a native San Diegan and an avid outdoorsman. Al has been trained as an interpretive guide\, is a Master Educator for the Leave No Trace Center For Outdoor Ethics and Chaparral Naturalist\, and has been a guest speaker for the Sierra Club on the topics of outdoor ethics\, backpacking\, hiking\, and camping. AI currently volunteers on the Reserve’s Trail Patrol and education teams. His talks include local plant and wild life\, how Native Americans and early pioneers used them\, and how they still benefit us and provide habitat. Join Al on the second Sunday of every month and witness a rare testimony of EFRR’s life and beauty. \n\nMay 12\nJune 9\nJuly 14\nAugust 11\nSeptember 8\nOctober 13\nNovember 10\nDecember 8\n\n\nSabina Kurz-Sherman\, Ph.D.\n\nAs a professor of biology at San Diego City College since 2006\, Sabina has been guiding her students on field trips through a variety of habitats\, including chaparral\, coastal sage scrub\, and oak riparian. Since her passion is helping people connect with nature\, she is happy to bring her knowledge and experience to EFRR. DESCRIPTION:Sky Hunters to showcase live birds\n\n\nA live raptor will be featured at Daley Ranch Discussions With Friends on Sunday\, July 14 at 11 a.m. at the Daley Ranch House. The public is invited to this free event\, sponsored by the Friends of Daley Ranch. The presentation will be followed by an optional\, informational hike led by Ray Radtkey\, an avid birder.\n\n\nSky Hunters is a non-profit group dedicated to informing the public about raptors\, birds of prey\, and promoting raptor conservation. See a live bird of prey\, learn about their habitat\, life spans\, and diet. Plus\, find out what to do if you find a sick\, orphaned\, or injured animal. Sky Hunters not only educates the public about raptors but also rehabilitates raptors that are injured.\n\n\nGuests may hike up to the Ranch House or may ride a free shuttle starting at 9:45 a.m. from the parking lot at the La Honda parking area.
