About The Coastal Cities Jazz Band:

The San Diego-based Coastal Cities Jazz Band was formed in 1997 and has performed across Southern California and Arizona. This band consists of 17 of San Diego’s county’s finest musicians who enjoy sharing art of big band music. Many of the members are professional musicians who have performed with big bands of the 40’s and 50’s. These include Harry James, Les Brown, Stan Kenton, Count Basie, and Jimmy Dorsey. Other members are active in the military bands or as music teachers. At the core, they all share a passion for making and sharing music!

The Coastal Cities Jazz Band grew out of the award-winning Coastal Communities Concert Band, which is known for its Pops Concerts throughout the world. It enjoyed a very close relationship with arranger/composer Sammy Nestico, who’s 60-year career included 15 years as Count Basie’s arranger, US Airforce Airmen of Note, White House Musical Director (JFK and LBJ), collaborations with Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones and Michael Buble. In 2016, the band was featured at TEDxSanDiego. Over the past few years, the band has featured world-renowned soloists Wayne Bergeron, Eric Marienthal, Andy Martin, Willie Murillo, Becky Martin, Carol Welsman, and Bernie Dresel. Vocalists who have joined the band have included Draeh Jirnae, Leonard Tucker Jr, Michael Ruhl, Sharon Owens, Rosemary Watson, and Ruby Presnell.

About Willie Murillo:

Willie Murillo is one of the leading jazz trumpet players in the country today. He is in steady demand for movie, television and commercial recordings in Hollywood and Los Angeles and may be heard on the movie soundtracks of Frozen, Elf, Cars, Delta Force, Stuart Little and commercials for McDonalds, American Express, EBAY, Embassy Suites, Hyundai and Burger King just to mention a few. He has been a member of Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, which many consider to be the best big jazz band of his generation. He has also worked with Quincy Jones, Brian Setzer, John Legend and Micheal Buble. As a frequent guest with The Coastal Cities Jazz Band, Willie is excited to be coming back to San Diego.
